Literature Text

Sometimes I like to just sit
and think.

I remember my past, sometimes with regret,
and sometimes with contented reminiscing
of better days.

I think about the present.
Sometimes I am happy with my life.
Sometimes it couldn't be worse

I wonder about the future.
Sometimes I make plans:
choose a career,
become rich,
marry, have children,
and succeed.

Sometimes I worry.
I fail. I am fired.
They say no.
I say no.
I live and die, alone and unhappy.

Sometimes I think about the world.
Sometimes I am outraged with what we humans are doing to each other.
But sometimes I feel pride for out achievements, as a society, as a people.

Sometimes I think about myself.
I hate how I look. I love how I look.
I'm a genius. I'm an idiot.

Sometimes I sit and think – but then I realize, that to live,
you don't sit and think;
you stand,
and do.
I wasn't really sure where I was going with this when I wrote it, but I wholeheartedly believe the last stanza.

Even if you didn't know where it was going as you wrote it, it really flows and the last stanza is the perfect way to end the poem. The shortening sentence structure of the last stanza made me feel like your thinking had finally come to a conclusion and you were going to get up and do =)
